I FORGOT: My 10 things

March 14, 2009

APPLE HQ:

My laptop. Guardian of my ideas, contacts, music, messages, and memories. The best investment I’ve ever made. The only piece of equipment that I’ve ever been attached to all my life. last thing I use before going to bed and the first thing I check when I wake it. I use it for work and recreational purpose. It’s a love hate relationship. I hate being on it for hours but I love the creative freedom it gives me (art and music wise). I hate and love how easy it makes life.

Toque:

Who knew that a black piece of fabric can bring so much joy to a person. It keeps me warm in the winter, and keeps my messy hair hidden. Makes sure I don’t get a ear infection when i walk outside with wet hair, and gives me more time to sleep in because I don’t have to “do” my hair. It goes well with what I wear and if I’m to hot I just take my toque off.

Glasses:

Old vintage glasses. I got these glasses when I was in Paris at the vintage market. They remind me of my travel and the people I met. They are the most perfect glasses for me. When I was young I got hit in the eye with a boomerang (yes a boomerang). This causes my left eye to be extra sensitive to light (sunny days). These glasses let me just flip the shades down when I’m outside, and flip them back up when I go indoors. They are old and have a story to them.

Guitar:

My old guitar. I never got good at it. Well pro at it. I wrote many songs on it when I was in high school. Now I barely touch it because of design. It still represents my first love, which is music. But now my musical taste has changed and I do more with Ableton Live then on my guitar. When I’m bored I still take my guitar out and play for a bit. It is a great stress reliever and another great creative outlet.

Abraham Lincoln:

This Abraham Lincoln sculpture belonged to my grandpa. When I was young and used to visit him at his house I would always look up at this black sculpture of a man sitting on this big chair (Just like my grandpa) and assumed that it was a sculpture of him. As I grew older and taller I was able to actually get close enough to the sculpture to see that it was in fact Abraham Lincoln. When I grandpa passes away I asked my grandmother for the sculpture and she of course let me have it.

Books:

I have a love hate relationship with books. When I am told to read a book, I rarely do. I like to read for myself and on subjects that I am interested in. I enjoy art & design books, but also english literature. To me there are another source of inspiration.

Wine:

Red Wine. It’s better then tea. it’s relaxing and  it’s suppose to be real healthy to have a glass everyday, but the problem is you just can’t have one glass. Scientist are creating a pill with the nutrients of red wine, and they say it’s suppose to extend your life expectancy to 10 years. Oh well, it’s still a good chill out drink.

Camera:

The photograph making machine. Who doesn’t like taking pictures? especially of your friends when they pass out, or when they are doing something embarrassing. Photography is just another form of art that I dabble in (not enough to even consider myself a photographer). My favorite camera would have to be the Pin hole camera. The pin whole camera is great because you can make it out of any box and any size. For now i just use my Rebel XTI. My 50 mm lens is what I am shooting with now.

Jeans:

Dress up, dress down meh.

Project 2!!!! 10 second countdown!

December 7, 2008

I’ve been waiting a while for the strike to end so I can post this, but it’s starting to seem like the strike will never end. So I’m just going to post my video anyways!

enjoy, I worked hard to get this done!

Project 2 Class Critic

November 14, 2008

This may be late but here was my class critic from steven, brian and mikey.

30 fps. start with the longest thing to animate and work back. The photos with the number being shot straight on work better then the photos with number being shot in an angle.

Have the decor of the 10 going out to in and the 9 going in to out.

The numbers with the decorations work better. The other number are to big.

If you are thinking about using the “big” number you will need to animate them with different colours. refer to skull image. Make it look like a heat detecting camera.

Steven says to try and maybe only have the numbers moving and have the decorations around the number animate continually throughout the animation.

have the animation get brighter as it gets to 2.

BAD NIGHT’S SLEEP!

October 21, 2008

This is what came out of my sound essay!

This project was to animate an audio file that was created for an exercise. The sound clip was created by trying to interpret the noun “dream” and the adjectives “dissolve” and “peel”.

Critique For Mike!

Mike Rinaldi
Rough cut critique

The rough cut that you showed me looks great. I just have a few critiques that may help you communicate your idea better. I would suggest to use more varied images. Try showing more views/angles of some images (live the glass cup) to get depth and a feeling of environment. Also show more images of the environment to get the point across of “environment”.

Overall the images that you picked for this project are great. they go really well with the soundtrack that you created.

Concept Development: well done on developing the images for the video based on the sound that you created.

Creativity: I like your out of the box thinking, and the way the images add to the sound.

Death From Above

October 21, 2008

Time-Based Communication Exercise 1

Death From Above captures the motion of clouds passing by on a clear sky day. The photos taken highlight the different effects that the natural light had on objects captured. The piece begins with a showcase of all photos taken during the hour span. This is followed by a fast paced sequence that juxtaposes the slow moving clouds. From what is supposed to be a calm, serene and peaceful concept is quickly turned into something violent, obnoxious and quick. The rotation of the photos near the end lend to the tension created with the short repeated sequences that feature shadow followed quickly by a sequence that highlights light in the frame. The contrast is so strong that one cannot ignore the beauty and unpredictability of natural light.

Sound Essay!

Sounds sounds sounds

September 19, 2008

Insidezzzzzzz:::::::::::::

sitting in lab 2 at 4:00pm. It’s free working time in the labs for all students.

The sounds that I noticed:

people talking in the background.

Mouse clicking.

fingers on keyboards keyboards.

cars doors slamming from the outside.

people laughing

people yelling outside

truck outside

peoples feet brushing against the floor

printer turning on and printing

someone picking up key

desk creaking

paper being held

chairs being rolled

questions being asked

Some Patterns that I noticed were the clicking of the mouse and the typing on the keyboards. It was very rhythmic and relaxing. Some sounds that I became aware of while having my eyes closed were the voices of people outside of the building and the sounds of the student’s shoes rubbing against the dirt on the floor. The background conversations weren’t as prominent as the typing.

The quality of sound in the lab was great. There were a variety of sounds but none over powering the others. It was calm and not chaotic .

Outsidezzzzzzz:::::::::::::

I’m sitting outside on the balcony. In the Village. It is around 5pm, around the same time people start coming home from school.

The sounds that I noticed:

Trucks moving in the background

the sound of feet on gravel

the sounds of someone walking up the steeps and opening their door.

the sound of keys jingling.

neighbours coming out of the house to garage and back in

A kid running on the pavement as he sing and his feet slammed the pavement

doors opening and being slammed

cars coming and going

Car door opening and closing

people talking on their cell phone

No noticeable pattern. All the sounds seem random. The sound of cars was what was the most prominent, probably because people were driving home. The quality of sounds wasn’t really good. I was elevated and not really surrounded by a lot.

The overall experience was great. I haven’t ever really sat and just listened to everyday sounds. I believe this will help me when creating videos, allowing me to have good quality of sound and having the sound be realistic.
